Title: Fairies
We are the last colony that remains in the world. There was a time when I couldn't help but see other fairies wherever I went. But the ever-growing presence of humans on the planet has decimated our number. We have been reduced down to living on a tiny rock islet of the lake we call Arpsitonia. Don't get me wrong, we love our solid rock foundation, the moss that serves as our beds, and the small tree from which we harvest the leaves for sustenance. It's just that it's getting more and more difficult for us to remain hidden.
You see, humans aren't allowed to see us. They aren't allowed to know that magic actually exists. We've seen how humans manipulate and abuse any kind of power or resource they can get their hands on.
Despite that fact, it is not our place to decide their fate. Although they don't realize that, if we go extinct, all life here will cease to exist. Our magic creates carbon and allows it to bond and form the basis of all life. We decide what combinations of molecules can form. If we were to decide to eliminate any type of organism, such as humans, we could.
But I suppose that it's all part of the grand experience. Nature must take its course, even if it's human nature. We do our job. We don't question it, and we love what we do. Our colony is peaceful and happy because our focus is not on survival. What happens on this celestial ball during its life cycle is insignificant. Our rewards will be after this existence. For now, we thrive on creation, we live to feed life, and we live in peace knowing that, no matter what humans bring into the future, we live in happiness.
