Title: Sensations

Kenneth Doan lay, contemplating that which had become. He could hear sonorous music in the distance. On his back he was taking note of the contrasting sensations of the sand. How could something feel like three hundred grain sandpaper in small quantities between the fingers, yet in a beach bed of billions of grains, it can feel like floating on a cloud? Beneath his body, the sand had cooled and at his sides, where the baking sun above shed its philanthropy of photons onto the surface, it was hot. Almost too hot to touch.

It reminded him of the first time he'd ever laid eyes upon Rebecca. Her exquisite beauty made him fear that if he were to reach out and behold her essence that he would be left scarred by its sizzle. Just like that day five years ago, Kenneth found the motivation to take the risk that would be the only way to know the heights of the potential prize that awaited.

Both, on this day and on the one five years ago, he ventured from his comfort zone because the positive energy that emitted was more tantalizing than the sting of burn wrought fear. He stood and moved forward, closer to the shore, walking slowly, feeling the sand smoulder his foot soles with every step, basking in the sensations. He endured the singe so that reaching the water-cooled shore line would feel all the better.

Kenneth stood in the wet sand, gazing at the long row of wet wood pedestals upon which she once danced with him years ago. Kenneth recalled all of the reasons that he so deeply fell in love with Rebecca and recognized the irony, after having just cooled his feet, he cured his cold feet. It was time to amble to the altar.
